Best Used 4×4 in 2022
4×4’s are without a doubt one of the most popular vehicle types on the road over the last 10 years. They seem to be becoming more and more popular as time goes on, and with brands adapting to this growing trend more and more effectively, finding the best 4x4s is not an easy feat, especially finding the best-used 4x4s at that. These are 10 of the most highly regarded 4×4/SUV vehicles on the market at the moment, voted because of their comfort, practicality, enjoyability or simply their stunning reputation. Each would certainly be a great buy if it’s in good condition or well inspected, and each can argue its points against the rest too. See also most reliable used cars.
Audi Q7
The Audi Q7 is WhatCar’s most highly regarded used 4×4. Its effortless style and sophistication as well as the usual quality signs that come from the brand as well as the performance that comes along with all of that combined make it a real powerhouse of the 4×4 market. It has something for every driver, no matter what you want from a vehicle. It’s also one of the largest 4x4s on the market at the moment too, so although it is incredibly comfortable, it is also a little bit difficult to park in some cases.
Seat Ateca
The Seat Ateca is one of the less well-known 4x4s in the used car market at the moment, but that is not to say it doesn’t deserve its place on the list. Coming in at the number 2 spot is even more of an accolade for the vehicle, and it does deserve it. SEAT has time and time again proven its vehicle quality and performance over the last few years, and as far as SUV/4x4s go, it certainly is one to watch in the future too. With speed, reliability and comfort all in one package, it’s really something.
Volvo XC60
The Volvo XC60 is the mid-range 4×4 from Volvo, but certainly still has a lot to offer any car owner. Kitted out with the latest tech as well as being a luxurious and comfortable vehicle all around, the XC60 oozes sophistication and the height of motoring as a whole. It is a stunning drive no matter what angle you choose to experience it from.
Peugeot 3008
Peugeot is performing year after year in recent years in reliability as well as comfort, and their high end 4×4 is no different. The 3008 is one of the best used 4x4s that money can buy at the moment, although they are also on the higher end of the price spectrum too. Despite that, however, they are also one of the most economical in line with their technological advancement and with a range of plug-in hybrid options required to get the 4 wheel drive system, that’s amplified even more.
Kia Sorento
Again looking back to the larger used vehicle models of 4×4 available, the Kia Sorento is, like the Ateca, another more affordable and extremely practical car that doesn’t scrimp on quality even at its most basic. Just launched in 2015, the model is in its prime and will probably just continue to improve as time goes on, making it a long time member of the list no doubt.
Landrover Discovery
The Landrover Discovery is without a doubt one of the most iconic and most highly desired 4x4s in the UK at the moment, and that goes for both the new and the used car markets. It truly is at the forefront of the 4×4 market and remains a force to be reckoned with, with the only commonly reported downside being its reliability and cost of repairing.
Skoa Kodiaq
A big car with a slightly smaller engine than many of its rivals, the Kodiaq is one of the most practical and most affordable models on the list. That’s by quite a stretch too, with both 5 and 7 seat options available. It’s a great runner with affordable and efficient running costs at every turn, and it’s from one of the most highly regarded brands in the mid tier price range too.
Toyota Rav 4
The Rav 4 is not by any means one of the most exciting vehicles on the road at the moment. That goes for exterior, performance and for comfort too. Excitement aside, however, it still remains to be one of the most reliable and practical vehicles never the less. In addition to the mid range price tag, that generally makes it a very reliable machine for day to day use, and a great allrounder too.
Audi Q5
The Audi Q5 has pretty much everything that the Q7 has to offer but of course in a smaller capacity. With less interior space, a smaller engine and less of the luxuries as standard, it is slightly less desirable than the Q7, but as a standalone vehicle, it absolutely has more than enough benefits to justify itself against even the bets in classes. While it is always best to have a variety of vehicles and brands in a comparison, this is just too good not to include.
BMW X5
Finally, the BMW X5 is the very last vehicle we’ll include on our list, and again, it’s one of the most popular used 4x4s on the market too. While it is smaller than the X5 and X7 variants, the X3 seems to have everything that these two have and more, all in a more compact and practical manner, making it much better value for money. Available with a range of different engine options, it’s a fantastic performer in every single category and is sure to make you appreciate the brand’s presence in the 4×4 market.
