The TOYOTA Is Old and Far Away From Malta
The buyer's story

Why they booked

The buyer, based in Malta, had found a TOYOTA they were seriously considering purchasing. Due to the vehicle’s age and specialist 4x4 nature, they wanted a detailed independent assessment before committing. Particular concerns included chassis and body corrosion, previous welding or underseal, front axle and knuckle condition, Birfield joints, oil leaks, cooling system and possible head-gasket issues. They also wanted the engine, gearbox and transfer case checked for leaks, along with suspension and steering wear and correct operation of the 4WD and differential locks. As Matthew G. could not easily inspect the vehicle in person, they booked a Standard inspection to identify previous accident repairs, signs of significant off-road use, and any immediate or potentially costly faults before deciding whether the TOYOTA was worth buying.

Inspection findings

Prior to carrying out a road test under bonnet fluid levels were checked and found to be correct, at this point the vehicle was started with no permanent warning lights displayed on the driver’s information panel, with the vehicle started readily from cold.

The road test was carried out at speeds of up to 50mph, in mixed road and traffic conditions. Wasn’t comfortable go more than 50mph.

During the road test the pay attention to the performance of the engine and transmission with the engine and transmission performance be considered in line with a similar vehicle the same make and model the similar mileage.

Throughout the course of the road test the vehicle handled and performed in a average to poor manner, steered the chosen path but pulled to right. Handled not in good manner and was free from any abnormal noise or vibration. Under braking noticed significant pull to the right. Vehicle also needs tracking. Adjust all tyre pressures.

During the road test there was no evidence of any excessive smoke from the exhaust, undue
audible noises from the transmission and no evidence of overheating.

With final checks revealing no evidence of coolant leaks in and around the engine bay, or
evidence of major oil leakage around the engine bay and or on the underside of the vehicle. However quite significant oil leak from rocker cover.

Overall conclusion at the time of inspection; vehicle is very average condition for the age and mileage in line with age. Usable car - considered a project car. Fair for the age.

Most recent service completed YES.

Prior to purchase, consideration must be given to the collective cost involved in the rectification of the desirable items listed within the report. These items should be reflected in the purchase price of the vehicle or rectified before purchase.

See my attached audio feedback.

*Expect vehicle may have previous insurance bodywork repairs carried such or end of lease resprays for improvements or seller repair work or accident damage recorded or non recorded - which is not checked on this inspection package. *

Conclusion:

1. There are no major reasons to reject this vehicle if condition is in line with expectations for 29 year old project car.
Visually look good. And vehicle would more likely around £5000 to keep if some issues what you will decide to improve.

Please call me back at your convenience once you have reviewed my report in detail, should you have any questions or require any advice.

Recommendation if deciding to purchase:

•Carry out full car history check.
•Always obtain appropriate extended warranty for your car.
•Customer must ensure that the seller has the legal right to sell the vehicle and that a valid purchase agreement is in place. I don’t verify legal ownership of the vehicle. Proof of ownership should be obtained in the form of a purchase invoice, receipt, or other supporting documentation.
•Advised to call previous maintenance provider to see if the vehicle has valid service records.
