One of the important process to understand vehicles condition overall is road test.Vehicle engine average idle time before road test 30-60min. Road test highlights vehicles performance issues, engine, steering, gear selection, clutch operation, gear changes, braking problems. Vehicle is driven through different road surfaces to detect any suspension issues. Inspector uses different driving styles to understand vehicles performance under different engine loads and always tries to achieve max legal speed under load subject to location.

Under section all manual checks are done and also most electrical control problems on modern cars will flag up under plug-in diagnostic checks.

Checks for unwanted defects, some operational issues or excessive wear and tear, unpleasant smell in the car, anything what potentially could cost you money to rectify.

Engine bay visually checked for fluid leaks, signs of overheating, incorrectly routed wiring or cooling pipes, and unsafe, loose or missing components. Timing belt condition is checked where visible and reasonably accessible. Where replacement history cannot be verified, replacement should be considered in accordance with the manufacturer’s age/mileage schedule. If there is no documented service history, an appropriate maintenance service is recommended.

Visual inspection of accessible brake components; braking performance is assessed during the road test. CarExamer recommends at least 50-60% brake pad friction material remaining, potentially representing around 10,000-20,000 miles of normal use. Actual lifespan varies considerably. For reference, pads below 1.5 mm are classed as a dangerous defect under UK MOT standards.

Visual check of wheels, trims, tyres, tread depth, cracking/damage, spare wheel, tools and locking nut where applicable. CarExamer recommends 5 mm minimum, around 50% usable tread or 10,000-15,000 miles remaining. As a guide, 1 mm ≈ 3,000-4,000 miles. UK legal minimum: 1.6 mm. 3 mm or below is marked red and replacement recommended.

Inspector will check for any suspension and steering issues short/long term mentioned under this section. Check for play in suspension components ball joints and condition of bushes. Suspension noises are mentioned under road test section.

Under this section all exterior issues will be mentioned, paint thickness readings for panels to check for previous accident damage or previous body repairs carried out and photo scratch report.(subject to inspection package) Some very minor body repairs repaired to industry standard may not be mentioned in nature car may suffer external cosmetic issues and paint correction might be necessary.
